Summary:

Electric Vehicles (EVs) have taken the world by storm recently, but they lack the connection to the car that the combustion engine gives. Something that may bridge this gap in feeling is bringing back the manual transmission. Ford has been thinking this recently with their newest patent on the EV manual transmission. Their patent features "a conventional-looking manual shifter placed precisely where the shifter would be on a combustion vehicle," mimicking how it feels to drive a gas car. While this does not mean Ford will start producing this transmission, it's likely that if they do it would be placed into the Mustang.

Thoughts:

I have a lot of very strong opinions on this topic and article. Growing up I have always had a strong interest in everything cars, I admired every kind, old, new, fast and slow. And, I've been following the car world closely, watching new innovations and advancements being made. But, one concept I was never a fan of was the electric car idea. I could never get behind the idea of a fully electric car. They lose the soul of a car with a combustion engine; there is a disconnect between the driver and the car with the introduction of modern technology. That's why I like this article so much, it covers the possibility of a manual transmission being put into EV's. And not just some paddle shifters, but a stick shift with a clutch. This really excites me, as a manual car owner I am not excited about the prospect of having to change to a fully electric future. And this, makes it more so much more palatable.
