Summary:
Recently, a man named Dave Sullivan, founder of Code Blue CPR, has installed the world's highest defibrillator at Everest base camp. This act ended up saving a life just three weeks after the installation. A 30 year old French woman had heart complications which resulted in her heart stopping. Fortunately the defibrillator was able to revive her, "It was the proudest moment of my life when I learned what happened," said Sullivan, recounting the call where a local Sherpa informed him of the event. Motivated by losing 4 friends from cardiac arrest, Dave made it his mission to make CPR and defibrillators more accessible to everyone. Now, in the UK, he's working with the government to launch a program aimed at teaching children the "necessary [skills] to save someone's life."
Thoughts:
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article, especially after having to read so much regarding all of the negativity in the world. I think its extremely important to have life saving equipment available everywhere and this is a great step in that direction. I think it is very compelling that Dave Sullivan is dedicating so much time towards saving people even if it means going all the way to Nepal. Cardiac arrest isn't something most people have in their mind, especially at a young age, and, its concerning to see a 30 year old requiring it. But, with proper precautions it's possible to help reduce the fatalities which occur due to cardiac arrest.
